Antithrombotic Effect
Butylphthalein in Angelica can enhance pial microcirculation by increasing microartery diameter and blood flow velocity after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). It also reduces neuronal apoptosis caused by hypoxia and hypoglycemia, preventing further cerebral infarction expansion.
Improvement in Blood Circulation
Angelica promotes better blood flow, which may help in conditions like blood deficiency and circulatory issues.
Cardiovascular Effects
Angelica decoction or fluid extract can inhibit the heart in isolated toads, potentially halting the heart in its diastolic phase at higher doses. It also has a protective effect on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion arrhythmia in rats.
Improvement of Coronary Circulation

Angelica liquid acupoint injection effectively treats lumbar muscle strain, muscle rheumatism, joint sprains, arthritis, and various neuralgias (e.g., sciatica, occipital neuralgia). In 1,000 cases, the treatment showed an 89.1% effectiveness rate, with 381 cases cured and 510 improved. After 1-3 minutes of the first injection, pain relief lasts 2-8 hours, with repeated treatments continuing to provide benefits. It not only alleviates pain but also relaxes muscles, reduces inflammation, and improves nerve and vascular function. Injection typically uses a 5-10% Angelica solution at 1-5 ml per point.
Chronic Bronchitis Treatment
Injecting 5% Angelica liquid into specific acupoints (e.g., Shanzhong, Feishu, Dingchuan) has been shown to improve chronic bronchitis symptoms. In a study of 93 patients over 50, 5 were cured, 26 improved significantly, and 52 showed improvement. The total effective rate was 89.3%.
Chronic Pelvic Inflammation Treatment
Acupoint injections using Angelica tissue fluid help treat chronic pelvic inflammation, relieve abdominal pain, and regulate menstruation. After 1-2 treatment courses, all 6 patients became pregnant within 6 months. Injection points include Weijiao, Sanyinjiao, and Zusanli, with a course of 6-10 injections. Common side effects include transient swelling and a tingling sensation post-injection, which resolves in 1-3 days.
Menstrual Disorders Treatment

Hypertension Treatment
A 20% compound Angelica injection, combined with glucose solution, was used to treat hypertension. In 7 patients, systolic blood pressure dropped by 16-56 mm Hg, and diastolic pressure by 2-30 mm Hg. Additionally, symptoms like dizziness and insomnia were alleviated.
Shingles Treatment
Angelica powder (0.5-1 gram every 4-6 hours) effectively treats shingles. In children, 22 cases experienced pain relief within one day, with the condition improving by day three. For adults, similar results were seen with Angelica extract tablets (0.5 grams every 4 hours).
Rhinitis Treatment
Acupoint injection of 5% Angelica liquid at Yingxiang and Yintang points effectively treats chronic rhinitis, hypertrophic rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, and paranasal sinusitis. Among 120 cases, 60.8% were cured, and 37.5% showed improvement. The treatment reduces inflammation, alleviates pain, and regulates nasal cavity functions, with particularly strong effects on nasal headaches.
